Dickens World

Charles Dickens :

Charles Dickens was an English writer and story-teller from a modest family, he was born Feb. 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, England and died in Gad's Hill June 9, 1870.
He spent his childhood in Chatham, but soon he had to leave the region to follow his father in London. Charles Dickens had to stop his studies at age of 12 because of financial problems.
He began to work in a blacking factory to try to help his family escape poverty, this is certainly why he wrote a lot about children and poverty. Shortly after, he studied to enter a law firm. But fond of literature as he was, he found job as a reporter in a magazine and in 1833 he began writing stories for the readers.

In 1837 he published
The Adventures of Mr. Pickwick. It is through this work that Dickens became famous. He married Catherine Hogarth that he left thereafter. Dickens did lot of trips and wrote a lot in magazines. So his work was published monthly at the beginning. He wrote The House of bitter wind, Oliver Twist, The antique shop,
David Copperfield... Charles Dickens was nicknamed "the national and international playboy of England" because he gave public readings in the world and it was internationally known through his works. But, exhausted, his health suddenly deteriorated. The railway accident he had in 1865 worsened his condition.
Five years later he died at Gad's Hill where he was buried with honor in Westminster Abbey. The novel "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" will never be completed.

Dickens World is an amusement park that opened its doors May 25, 2007 at Chatham in Kent in memory of the famous English writer Charles Dickens.

The landscapes of Dickens World change with the seasons. Costumes, sound and light effects and seasonal changes give the illusion of being in the world of Dickens.
When we enter, we are immersed in the London of the XIXth century. The famous characters of his works have been recreated and robotized(Oliver Twist, David Copperfield ...), but they are played by real actors.
Once inside, you can visit all the park, going to the Marshalsea Prison, Crime & Punishment, or following classes of Nicolas Nickelby in his classroom.

For the brave, it's possible to challenge Ebenzer Scrooge in the haunted house, animated by fascinating special effects.
There is also the Great Expectations Boat Ride, a circuit where you're carried in a boat, impressive and very funny.

You can also go to the Britannia Theatre, to discover the characters of Dickens, annimated mechanically.
Dickens World was a very good experience for us !

I'll let you discover the rest!
