Big ben

So ! We started by Big Ben, the famous Bell tower of London!

Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of 13.5 tonnes installed in the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster, the seat of the Houses of Parliament in London.

Only the British can visit Big Ben, after obtaining a permit.

The building is in front the Thames between Westminster Bridge and Westminster Abbey.

After a fire which partly destroyed the Parliament Building in 1835, a building project was chosen. The project of Charles Barry was selected, he provided to include a bell tower to the building.

The famous bell rang for the first time in May 31, 1859. Each year it's set by placing a penny on the mechanism if the clock is some minutes foward, or if it's some minutes backward: it's amazing !
